Distracted Driver Causes Rear-end Accident #CaughtOnBlackVue

According to the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA), a whopping 8.1% of all car crash fatalities were due to distracted driving in 2020. That’s a staggering number of deaths that could have been easily prevented. And while not all accidents are fatal, it’s just common sense to remember not to text and drive. Here’s BlackVue’s user’s story about his encounter with a distracted driver.

Rear-ended in traffic

This BlackVue user was trying to find a parking spot during the Wasabicon (Jacksonville’s anime, cosplay & gaming convention) in Jacksonville, Florida. Due to the main parking lot being closed, he was stuck in a slow traffic. Such a stop-and-go traffic is a fertile ground for distractions. And that’s exactly what happened – the driver of a 2009 Volvo rear-ended BlackVue user’s 2017 Acura MDX while being distracted by his phone.

“Don’t text and drive!”

Everything was captured by the BlackVue dash cam’s rear camera. The footage was sent to the other driver’s insurance company, who admitted fault almost immediately. The BlackVue user told us (and all the other drivers out there): “Put the phone aside while driving, regardless if it’s a red light or peak traffic. This accident was definitely avoidable had the driver behind me didn’t have his phone in his hand.”

And you? Don’t wait until AFTER something happens. You never know what awaits you on the road. Get your dash cam todayhere.
